You must enrol/attend a Pre course Hair assessment/interview prior to enrolling on this course. This course is a Level 2 qualification for those wishing to work in the Hair industry.
This course aims to provide learners with essential skills and knowledge in hairdressing techniques and practices. Students will develop proficiency in a range of services such as cutting, styling, coloring, and treatments.

What Will Happen At My First Lesson
The first week of your course will include Study Skills. Good Study Skills are vital to ensure you gain the best from your course. The Study Skills session will give you the opportunity to discover the best way that you can learn and fully understand the requirements of the course.

Who is this course for?
Those wishing to work in the HairdressingIndustry as the Level 2 qualification will then enable learners to seek employment within a professional salon. Learners would benefit from a salon placement to get workplace experience within a salon environment whilst working towards the Level 2 qualification, either on a paid or voluntary basis. It is also advantageous for learners to have some previous experience of Hairdressing techniques such as an introductory level course. It is recommended that learners hold at least GCSEs at grade A to C or the equivalent. PLEASE NOTE: You will be required to attend an interview session on a specified date before you can enrol on the course. Failure to attend the interview session may result in your enrolment being withdrawn. You will also be required to complete an online assessment in maths and english prior to interview if you do not currently hold these qualifications. (Copies will be required at enrolment in order to gain exemption). An A4 piece of typed research relating to hairdressing and barbering will also be required at interview, together with details of styles you are particularly interested in creating,and the face shapes your chosen styles would suit. Please note your interview may be cancelled if you do not produce the required research. A comprehensive handbook will be made available to you once enrolled. Please ensure you read the document thoroughly, and bring the Handbook with you to induction week 1, together with photocopies of all relevant certificates (prior to learning.) You can download the Handbook from our website, details of which are on the accompanying Learner Guidance form. NB THIS COURSE WILL BE DELIVERED OVER TWO DAYS A WEEK FOR 35 WEEKS, AT 5 HOURS EACH SESSION.

How will I learn?
Your tutor will use a number of different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of authentic materials, individual study, working in pairs/group activities and will include the use of video/audio. You will also have the opportunity to use online learning technologies to develop your skills.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Progression and Achievement will be monitored by the course tutor, and reviewed with the learner at identified intervals. The learner will be responsible for their Records of Assessment Log Book which is part of the evidence required for qualification. Ongoing internal assessment and feedback of assignments. Feedback and action planning of practical skills. Regular tutorials. Assessments will take place in the form of practical work, together with online multi choice question tests. Learners' wishing to obtain the full qualification should be able to show a high attendance record and be able to demonstrate successful achievement of the related skills Internal Verification and External Moderation takes place at intervals throughout the course.

Will I need to do extra work at home?
Learners must be prepared to set aside additional time for the practice of techniques and skills acquired on family and friends as well as completion of essential theory and homeassignments via ILT research, reading and revision of approximately 10 hours per week.

What will I need to provide?
What will I need to provide? Learners should bring to the class: 2 x A4 ring binders and a clipboard, a pen and A4 notepad, poly pockets and dividers. LEARNERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE A MINIMUM OF ONE CLIENT EACH PER WEEK ONCE THE SALON IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Are there any other costs?
Are there any other costs? Learners will discuss at induction and be required to purchase the following items: 2 black hand towels. Tunic & Trousers (approximate cost £25 per item) and worn with own black shoes. Black leggings may be worn with long line tunics only. Basic Hairdressing starter kit included in the course fees. Please note it is your responsibility to replace any items of the kit that become unusable or lost. Additional resources as advised by the tutor at interview

What can I do next?
Learners will be able to seek employment as a junior in a hair salon. The tutor will also advise on course progression within the College programme and to Further Education opportunitie.

What can I expect to learn? The course will provide the knowledge and practical skills necessary to demonstrate a professional approach in the workplace including the need for appropriate communication with clients and colleagues and will include:- Working in the hair industry and salon reception duties Maintain health & safety in the salon Client consultation for hair services Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp Cut women's hair Styling women's hair Scalp Massage Colour and lighten the hair Provide perming services In addition the learner will need to understand and implement good working relationships with colleagues and clients.
