This course is designed to provide students with a basic foundation in the language and a basic understanding of the culture. This course will begin with a review of the alphabet and pronunciation. Students will then learn basic vocabulary and phrases in a number of everyday situations. Grammar will be introduced and practiced through a variety of activities and examples. By the end of the course, students will be able to understand and respond to basic questions in the target language

What Qualification/level is this course?
This course does not lead to a qualification and is for personal development.

Who is the course for?
The course is for absolute beginners who wish to be able to ‘get by’ and experience an introduction to the language. At first session your tutor will discuss the particular topics you will be covering ( ie. greeting people, ordering (basic) drinks and snacks, saying numbers, intrducing yourself, key questions, etc)

What can I expect to learn?

How will I learn?
Teaching methods include tutor presentations, supported by tutor handouts, group and individual activities, peer discussions and critiques, with use of information and learning technologies where appropriate.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutor will give you feedback on classroom activities and tasks undertaken. Individual learning outcomes will be agreed at the beginning of the course, taking into account the course aims and your aspirations.

Will I have to do any work at home?
Home study is optional; but you will be encouraged to work away from the course to develop your skills and get the most from your course. To get the most from the course, we recommend you spend about 2 hours a week to go over what you have learnt and prepare for the next session. Your tutor will normally set you a task to do at home, which may involve reading, writing or researching information about a specific topic

What will I need to provide?
If your course is online, you will need a laptop, tablet or PC with webcam a microphone, internet connection with Google Chrome browser, an email address and be able to access websites.
