Learn how to cut hair, from cutting the family's or as a basis for progressing to a professional hairdressing course. A 'blockhead' will need to be purchased (approximately £35) to practise on.
Please ensure that the course is running prior to purchasing any equipment

Who is this course for?
This is an introductory course to give you an insight into the world of barbering. Also it’s a great way to see if you feel comfortable in what you are doing and have a natural flare for cutting.

What can I expect to learn?
This is an introductory course to give you an insight into the world of barbering. Also it’s a great way to see if you feel comfortable in what you are doing and have a natural flare for cutting. You will cover basic hair and scalp needs, suitable products to include washing, styling and finishing. The tools and equipment needed for cutting men’s hair. How to hold scissors correctly. Videos for you to watch. A basic clipper cut which will be demonstrated to you. Styling men’s hair to finish. The units that we will be touching on are from the VRQ qualification. So this would tie in nicely if you were interested in enrolling on our barbering course in September.

How will I learn?
Your tutor will use a number of different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of authentic materials, individual study, working in pairs/group activities and will include the use of video/audio. You will also have the opportunity to use online learning technologies to develop your skills.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Learners with the tutor will complete; An Initial Assessment Questionnaire Confidential Health Questionnaire An Individual Learning Plan Progression will be monitored by the course tutor, and reviewed with the learner at the end of this workshop . If learners have any doubts about their personal health and/or fitness they should consult their GP prior to enrolling and inform the tutor at the first session of any medical condition that may affect their progress.

Am I expected to do work at home?
Practicing the techniques seen and learned will enhance your knowledge and skills

What will I need to provide?
Learners should bring to the class: Comb Scissors (basic hairdressing scissors can be purchased from Boots) Large towel, hairdressing cape or gown, with clip to fasten if needed Water spray Own products, such as gel or mousse and hairspray A barbering tuition head and clamp, available from your local hairdressing wholesalers at an approximate cost of £35 It is not advisable to buy tuition heads on line as the quality may not be suitable. NB Learners are advised to ONLY purchase equipment a few days prior to the start date of the course. The college will provide the use of clippers.
