Discover your path to wellbeing through exploring and expressing your creativity in pottery and the joy of artistic expression. Immerse yourself in the creative process of using clay to hand build your unique beautiful artefacts and explore the world of pottery in a supportive and nurturing environment. Each session will build your confidence, resilience and self-esteem.

What will happen on my first session?
You will consider the 5 ways to wellbeing standards and give us some information about yourself and how you see the course supporting your wellbeing. The tutor will set you a project which will start you on your journey of creativity.

What qualification/level is this course?
This course is for all levels and does not lead to a qualification.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to improve their confidence, resilience and self-esteem through working within a group of like-minded people while developing practical craft skills.

What can I expect to learn?
The course will develop your awareness and understanding of the benefits that creativity has in supporting wellbeing. This includes: Expressive Pottery Making Create craft work that reflects emotions, thoughts and experiences. Pottery and Reflection Explore, write and talk about your feelings, thoughts or any insights you have gained during the creative process. Sessions will be practical working directly with clay to create hand-built pottery artefacts. Create functional or decorative pieces that reflect your unique voice. There is support and guidance on techniques to develop these skills. Completed work will be evaluated including reflecting on the effects of achievement on self-confidence and resilience. The tutor will agree targets with you at the start of the course.

How will I learn?
The tutor will use a variety of different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include using a wide range of materials, individual, paired and group activities. You will have the opportunity to explore digital technology to develop your skills.

How will I know how I am progressing?
You will negotiate your objectives with the tutor at the start of the course and these will be reviewed regularly. There should be a willingness to self-assess your wellbeing and monitor this for progress and impact throughout the course by target setting. This will be recorded in your sketchbook. The tutor will provide developmental feedback throughout the course to ensure you get the most from your learning with ACL.

Will I have any homework?
No homework will be set but you will be encouraged to do some research.

What will I need to provide?
You will need an apron and hand towel every session. Further information on developing a personal pottery toolbox will be given at the start of the course.

Are there any other costs?
The tutor will advise you of resources needed at the start of the course. Costs are kept as low as possible dependent on projects chosen.
