Description

This course offers the structured discipline of Iyengar Yoga, practising a range of postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama) and relaxation techniques. The course is for beginners in yoga practice wishing to improve core strength, flexibility, balance, posture and well-being. Please note that this course is not suitable for learners who are pregnant or undergoing chemotherapy. If you have medical problems or any concerns about the suitability of this course for you, arrangements can be made for the Iyengar Yoga Teacher to provide further information if you telephone 0345 603 7635 or email lifelong.learning@essex.gov.uk with your contact details.

What Qualification/level is this course?
This course does not lead to a qualification and is for personal development.

Who is this course for?
This course is designed for beginners or those with little experience in yoga practice. However please note that it is not suitable for learners who are pregnant or undergoing chemotherapy. Please inform us of any individual circumstances to help us meet your needs. If you have any doubts about your personal health and/or fitness to be able to safely participate in this course, you should consult your GP prior to enrolling and inform the tutor at the first session of any medical condition that may be relevant.

What can I expect to learn?
You will gain an introduction to a variety of strengthening and toning yogic practices from the Iyengar yoga tradition, breathing techniques, restorative postures and relaxation techniques to help combat stress and fatigue.

How will I learn?
Teaching methods will include tutor explanation and demonstration, and physical practice under tutor supervision.

How will I know how well I am doing?
By tutor feedback and self-reflection. Group and individual learning outcomes will be discussed with the tutor and agreed at the beginning of the course, regularly reviewed and adjusted as necessary throughout the course to meet your individual needs. You will be encouraged to review and reflect on your own progress and record your progress.

Will I have to do any work at home?
Yes, home practice between classes will be beneficial and you will be advised as appropriate by the tutor.

What will I need to provide?
Learners should bring to the class: Yoga blanket or firm blanket that can be rolled for support Pen and notepad Your own yoga mat if you have one Be ready to work in bare feet and wear shorts or leggings and a T shirt PLEASE DO NOT EAT AT LEAST 2 HOURS BEFORE THE CLASS

Are there any other costs?
The tutor will advise on the most appropriate resources to purchase for home practice at the first session.
