Description
Develop your creativity and produce some simple pieces of jewellery using silver clay. Silver clay is a sustainable medium made from recycled silver and a non-toxic organic binder, perfect for making jewellery at home.
This course takes design as its focus so you will also consider what makes a good gift, where to sell your work and how to present your items.
Please note you will undertake an assessment and study skills at the start of the course to gain the nationally recognised qualification.

What Qualification/level is this course?
This is course leads to a nationally recognised NCFE Level 1 Award in Creative Craft
Please note the NCFE certificate will not list Silversmithing as the subject studied, ACL will issue a separate certificate
Who is the course for?
No prior knowledge of jewellery making required as this course is suitable for beginners or learners with a basic understanding and experience in this craft who would like to gain a qualification.
What can I expect to learn?
You will learn -
A brief intro about what silver clay is, how it differs from more traditional silversmithing. Equipment needed and basics to get started for those who have not done the entry level.
Learn how to carve jewellery.
Nature inspired jewellery using leaves.
Making bails to complement your design.
Using flex to create your own sheet clay.
Making a marker’s mark
Presentation skills
Costing your work
Fingerprint jewellery
Extra polishing tips
Produce and present at least one finished silver item.
Compile a digital portfolio
You will present a digital portfolio of evidence to gain the qualification. You may also wish to collate your work and samples within a hard copy portfolio alongside this.
How will I learn?
Your tutor will use a number of different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of authentic materials, individual study, working in pairs/group activities as well as developing digital skills.
How will I know how well I am doing?
You will be encouraged to reflect on your learning through regular assessments and developmental feedback from your tutor.
Will I have to do any work at home ?
You will be encouraged to research at home and work on your digital portfolio.
What will I need to provide?
You will need to provide your own resources which the tutor will advise during the assessment session.
