Technical Support


Create beautiful and accurate pieces of botanical art work by learning the basics. Improve observational skills by looking in detail at plant material. The proven techniques will enable you to produce elegant pieces.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for all levels and for anyone who likes to be challenged.

What can I expect to learn?
You will learn to draw and paint with a range of different media, which could include: - Watercolours - Acylics - Oils - Charcoal - Pen and Wash You will also look at aspects of colour theory, composition and perspective within each project and will have the opportunity to produce some exciting work.

How will I know how I am progressing?
You will negotiate your objectives with the tutor at the start of the course and these will be reviewed regularly. You will be expected to keep a portfolio to record your progress and evidence your achievements. The tutor will provide developmental feedback throughout the course to ensure you get the most from your learning with ACL.

Will I have any homework?
Yes, you will be expected to keep a sketchbook to make notes and draw; your sketchbook will be used as a method to record your progress and will need to be with you for every live lesson.

What will I need to provide?
You will need to provide: - 2H, 4B, 6B, 8B pencils. - Rubber, ruler and sharpener. - Blending stumps - Sketchbook A4 - Waterproof drawing pen (black) - Watercolour Pad A4 or bigger 140lb - Acryclic/water soluble oils paints - your choice, but please add the appropriate medium to thin/glaze (flow improver for acrylics) - Brushes 12 flat, size 8, 6 or 4, round, size 1 detail and size 1 or 2 rigger brush (synthetic as these can apply to all paints) - Canvas paper/board - Drawing board or stiff board to stick paper to - Masking tape, paper towel and water pots. Any other media will be discussed as you go and it is recommended that you do not make any expensive purchases before discussing with your tutor.
