Release your inner wordsmith! This course will introduce skills to start you on your journey towards becoming a creative writer. It will enable you to convert your ideas into readable and interesting fiction, to become more articulate, develop your imagination and writing skills to capture and express your creativity in words. The course is aimed at beginners but those with a little experience seeking to refresh or renew skills are also welcome. It is desirable to have a competent level of English reading and writing skills as coursework will involve written exercises.

What Qualification/level is this course?
This course does not lead to a qualification and is for personal development.

Who is the course for?
This online course is designed for those who wish to express their ideas in writing short stories. No previous experience or qualifications are required, but it is desirable to have a competent level of reading and writing English skills.

What can I expect to learn?
Topics include how to read, analyse and identify elements of short stories and to use this to inspire and develop your own story writing.

How will I learn?
You will need to have access to the internet, an email address and have use of a device where you can type your stories and comfortably take part in an online tutor led session - a camera and headphones are also desirable. Your tutor will offer online presentations and activities. This is a practical course and you will be expected to do some writing in each lesson.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutor will give you feedback on classroom activities, and writing undertaken at home. Individual learning outcomes will be agreed at the beginning of the course, taking into account the course aims and your aspirations. These will be reviewed with you at regular intervals and you will be encouraged to reflect on your own learning and record your feedback in your online Individual Learning Plan.

Will I have to do any work at home?
Yes, you will be encouraged to develop your writing skills at home.

What will I need to provide?
Paper, pens & folder and a pc or laptop with internet connection and camera, an email address.

Are there any other costs?
No. However your tutor may recommend further reading, research and/or websites for further independent exploratory learning.
