Description

Colchester is Britain's oldest recorded town with a history stretching back over 2,000 years. In this short video presentation we will looking at the period when the Romans first arrived here in AD 43, through to the time when the town was destroyed by Boudica's marauding army in AD 60/61. This course will whet your appetite for more history courses to follow.

To participate in this course you will need to have access to a computer, laptop or other device that can utilise video and sound files to be able to access the course and internet connection with Google Chrome browser.

What can I expect to learn?
By the end of this course you will be able to: Explain why Colchester is considered to be the oldest recorded town in Britain Understand Colchester's importance in the Roman conquest of Britain and know some facts about the building of the Legionary Fortress and Roman Colonia Understand the nature of archaeological evidence and its importance in helping us to interpret events that happened in the past Be able to relate events surrounding the discovery of the Fenwick treasure hoard

Learners will be guided through a Powerpoint presentation which carefully explains the content, after which there will be an opportunity to partake in a quiz to test their learning. Learners will be advised how to progress and directed to various resources to assist them.

How will I know how well I am doing?
There is a self-assessment quiz included within the course for you to gauge your achievement.

Will I have to do any work at home?
As a single session online course there is no requirement for additional homework, however there are further reading suggestions made if you wish to broaden your understanding of this subject
