What Will Happen At My First Lesson
Prior to enrolling onto the online course you will be asked to complete a diagnostic assessment that your online tutor will review. When that is completed, you will be given an enrolment key for the online course on our VLE (Virtual Learning Environment).
There is an induction video that will help you navigate the course.
What Qualification/level is this course?
We offer Functional Skills qualifications at Level 1 or Level 2 for our online courses. Essex ACL Essex uses the awarding body Pearson (Edexcel) for Functional Skills qualifications.

Who is the course for?
Anyone whose first language is English who needs to improve their reading, writing and speaking & listening skills to become functional in their everyday lives and work and gain a qualification.
What can I expect to learn?
You will work on the areas relevant to your own needs to achieve a Functional Skills English qualification.
You will improve your skills in the following areas:
Speaking, listening and communication
Take part in formal and informal discussions.
Give short presentations.
Compare, select, read and understand texts and use them to gather information, ideas, arguments and opinions.
Write documents to communicate information, ideas and opinions using formats suitable for their purpose and audience.
Developing correct use of spelling, punctuation and grammar.
How will I learn?
This is an online course which means that you will be working at your own pace. However, your tutor will expect you to access the course for at least 2:30 hours per week and complete activities and assignments. Many of these activities are self-marked but some assignments need to be forwarded to your tutor who will assess them and give you feedback.
You will also need to take part in speaking and listening assessments that will be organised by your tutor.
There may be an opportunity to have an online tutorial with your tutor if necessary.
How will I know how well I am doing?
You will complete a personal progress record each week to help your tutor support you with achieving your learning goals. You will receive feedback from your tutor from submitted assignments
Will I have to do any work at home ?
This is an online course and your tutor expects you to complete assignments and activities at home regularly.
What will I need to provide?
You need to have Wifi and an email address. It is essential that you have personal computer or device where you can comfortably complete assignments.
