Description

This course is for learners whose first language is not English to access Functional Skills English L1/L2 qualifications for progression in employment and education. You are expected to have completed an ESOL qualification before enrolling on this course. You will improve your reading, writing and speaking and listening skills. You will also work towards a qualification. You will need to attend one 2:30 hr sessions a week in a centre.

You will need to complete an assessment and attend a virtual pre-course interview with a tutor before starting this course, during which you will be able to discuss all the options available to you. Click on 'How to Enrol' button on the right-hand side of this page to book your assessment.

What Will Happen At My First Lesson
For your first session of this online course you will meet your tutor and other learners, find out about the course and set personal targets to work towards.

What Qualification/level is this course?
This course offers Functional Skills English qualifications at L1/L2. You will discuss the level of qualification you will be working towards with your tutor.

Who is the course for?
This course is for speakers of other languages who need to gain Functional Skills English qualifications for employment or wider education purposes. It is expected that you would have already completed an ESOL qualification before enrolling on this course.

What can I expect to learn?
You will work on the areas relevant to your own needs to achieve a Functional Skills English qualification. You will improve your skills in the following areas: Speaking, listening and communication Take part in formal and informal discussions. Give short presentations. Reading Compare, select, read and understand texts and use them to gather information, ideas, arguments and opinions. Writing Write documents to communicate information, ideas and opinions using formats suitable for their purpose and audience. Develop skills to improve spelling, punctuation and grammar.

How will I learn?
Your tutor will use several different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of materials and websites, individual study, working in pairs/group activities and will include the use of video/audio.

How will I know how well I am doing?
You will receive regular verbal and written feedback from your tutor. You will also complete a personal progress record each week to help your tutor support you with achieving your learning goals.

Will I have to do any work at home ?
To get the most from the course you will be expected to complete work at home independently as directed by the tutor.

What will I need to provide?
Pens and pencils Paper - A4 lined is best. Folder for your notes
