Description

This fast-paced course will enable you to achieve a Higher GCSE in Maths (grade 5-9).

It will support you to improve your career prospects and to increase your maths confidence. It could give you the opportunity to move on to further study, such as Access or university courses. Classes are available at several our centres on a variety of days and times.

You will need to complete an assessment and attend a pre-course interview with a tutor before starting this course, during which you will be able to discuss all the options available to you. Click on 'How to Enrol' button on the right-hand side of this page to book your assessment & interview.

Who is this course for?
For any learner who, having completed the assessment successfully, wants to gain a GCSE in maths. This is a 30 week course. You will need to have access to the required IT equipment in order to access this course. You will have the option of either joining the class in centre or joining it online. The classes will be delivered in our Hybrid rooms allowing for those at home to also feel part of the class.

What Qualification/Level is this course?
This is course for anyone who needs to achieve a GCSE grade 5-9 Please note that in order to enrol onto a GCSE course it is a requirement that you attend a GCSE Diagnostic Assessment. It is recommended that you only undertake one GCSE per year. You will be able to discuss this at your assessment. AQA GCSE Mathematics

What Will Happen At My First Lesson
The first week of your course will include Study Skills. Good Study Skills are vital to ensure you gain the best from your course. The Study Skills session will give you the opportunity to discover the best way that you can learn, fully understand the requirements of the course and develop a timetable for homework and study.

What can I expect to learn?
This course will follow the AQA syllabus for GCSE Maths You will learn a range of mathematical techniques. You will be expected to apply these to solve problems.

How will I learn?
Your tutor will use several different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of materials and websites, individual study, working in pairs/group activities and will include the use of video/audio.

How will I know how well I am doing?
You will complete weekly Individual Learning Plan and will have regular discussions with your tutor. You will be expected to complete homework each week and your tutor will give you feedback on this. Throughout the course you will complete regular assessments in order to see progress. You will also be required to take a mock exam - these will take place in our centres. Dates of these will be confimred ASAP

Will I need to do extra work at Home?
A requirement of your course is to complete a substantial amount of additional learning outside of your lesson. This could be as much as 15 hours a week. This will be directed by your tutor but you will also be expected to revise and practice what you have learnt in class. We will also give you access to an online GCSE Textbook and MyMaths

What will I need to provide?
Useful items include: Pens and pencils Paper (plain, squared or lined as you prefer) Folder for your notes Graph paper Mathematical drawing instruments (a ruler, compasses, protractor, set square) Scientific calculator - you will not be able to use your phone as a calculator in the exam so please do not use this in class either. We will give you access to the online AQA GCSE textbook. However, you may also like to purchase a hard copy. This is down to personal preference.
