Description
This course is for anyone who needs to improve their Maths skills for their everyday life, to increase their career prospects or to gain access to further or higher education. You will work towards a qualification. Classes are available at all our centres on a variety of days and times.
You will need to complete an assessment and attend a pre-course interview with a tutor before starting this course, during which you will be able to discuss all the options available to you and any concerns you may have. What Qualification/level is this course?
This course accommodates individuals aiming for a Functional Skills qualification. Your tutor will guide you in determining the appropriate qualification level based on your initial and diagnostic assessment results, as you cannot select your starting level. Expect a mixed-level classroom environment, with learners working towards various qualifications, while not all participants pursue formal certification.

Who is the course for?
For anyone who needs to improve their maths skills to become functional in their everyday lives and work or to gain access to further or higher education. You may work towards a qualification. You will also have additional homework to complete outside of the classroom and must be able to commit to completing this.
What can I expect to learn?
The course will consist of various topics such as:
Using the four main methods of calculation, working with fractions, decimals and percentages, analysing data from charts and graph, finding the area and perimeter of shapes, working with a variety of units of measure, time and weight and converting measurements. Depending on your level you may also cover, ratio, angles and algebra.
How will I learn?
Your tutor will use several different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of materials and websites, individual study, working in pairs/group activities and will include the use of video/audio.
How will I know how well I am doing?
You will complete weekly Individual Learning Plan and will have regular discussions with your tutor. You will be expected to complete homework each week and your tutor will give you feedback on this. Throughout the course you will complete regular assessments in order to see progress.
Will I have to do any work at home ?
Yes. Your tutor will advise you of additional work that you need to complete. You need to make sure that you allow enough time to complete this each week.
What will I need to provide?
You may want a pen, pencil, ruler, lined paper, and a folder for your work. You will need a calculator when you take your exam - it is a good idea to use the same one throughout your course, so you get used to it. You will not be able to use your phone as a calculator in your exam.
