Description
This online course is for anyone working at an appropriate level and who needs to improve their Maths skills for their everyday life, to increase their career prospects or to gain access to further or higher education. You will work towards a qualification.
You will work through a series of units in your own time, on a day / time that suits you. A tutor will mark the work you submit and give feedback. They will also offer tutorials as needed. Progress will be rigorously monitored, and you will be expected to do a minimum of 3 hours self-study each week.
You will need to complete an assessment and attend a pre-course interview with a tutor before starting this course, during which you will be able to discuss all the options available to you and any concerns you may have. What Qualification/level is this course?
This online self-study course is suitable for anyone working towards a Functional Skills qualification at Level 1. You will work through a series of units in your own time each week. You will be expected to do a minimum of 2 hours study a week and will be allocated a maximum of 30 weeks to finish the course. In order to join this course, you will need access to the internet plus a laptop or computer with a built-in camera or webcam / microphone, a printer and a scanner. You will need to print work, complete at home and then scan / upload for feedback.

What can I expect to learn?
The course will consist of various topics such as:
Using the four main methods of calculation, working with fractions, decimals and percentages, analysing data from charts and graph, finding the area and perimeter of shapes, working with a variety of units of measure, time and weight and converting measurements.

How will I know how well I am doing?
You will complete weekly Individual Learning Plan and can have regular discussions with your tutor. Throughout the course you will complete regular assessments in order to see progress and will receive feedback on all work uploaded.

What will I need to provide?
You will need to have access to a computer or laptop with a camera and microphone (or a webcam) and you will need access to the internet, a printer and a scanner You may also want a pen, pencil, ruler, lined paper, and a folder for your work. You will need a calculator when you take your exam - it is a good idea to use the same one throughout your course, so you get used to it. You will not be able to use your phone as a calculator in your exam.
