Description
This fast-paced, 'virtual classroom' based course will enable you to achieve GCSE English Language (AQA).
It will support you to improve your career prospects and to increase your confidence with English. It could give you the opportunity to move on to further study, such as Access or university courses. Classes are delivered via an online classroom and are available on a variety of days and times.
You will need to complete an assessment and attend a virtual pre-course interview with a tutor before starting this course, during which you will be able to discuss all the options available to you. Click on 'How to Enrol' button on the right-hand side of this page to book your assessment.
What Will Happen At My First Lesson
You will receive an induction to the course and meet other learners. The session will include study skills advice give you the opportunity to fully understand the requirements of the course and become familiar with accessing and using your Teams course area.
What Qualification/Level is this course?
This course for anyone who needs to achieve a GCSE grade 9-1 Please note that in order to enrol onto a GCSE course it is a requirement that you attend a GCSE Assessment. It is recommended that you undertake only one GCSE per year. You will be able to discuss this at your assessment.

Who is this course for?
For any learner who, having completed the assessment successfully, wants to gain a GCSE in English.
What can I expect to learn?
This course will follow the AQA syllabus for GCSE English Language. You will cover speaking and listening including an individual presentation. You will learn to construct and convey meaning in written standard English and interpret texts from 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.
How will I learn?
This is an 'online live' course which means you will attend a weekly three hour session with your tutor and other learners on our Teams teaching platform. You must have a pc or laptop with a working camera, access to the internet, a printer, and scanner. We encourage all our learners to switch on their cameras when participating in English classes.
How will I know how well I am doing?
You will also complete a personal progress record each week in order for your tutor to support your learning goals. You will receive regular verbal and written feedback from your tutor. You will be expected to complete homework each week and your tutor will give you feedback on this. Throughout the course you will complete regular assessments to review your progress. You will also be required to take mock exams - these will take place in our centres. Dates of these will be confirmed.
Will I need to do extra work at home?
A requirement of your course is to complete a substantial amount of additional learning outside of your lesson. This will be directed by your tutor but you will also be expected to revise and practise what you have learnt in class.
What will I need to provide?
It is essential to have a digital device that you are able to type on to for this course. You will be required to upload typed homework.
