Description

You can start this English course at any point throughout the year, but you must attend a weekly face-to-face 2.5 hour class in centre. You will study independently at your own pace using our self-study courses with the support of a tutor. The first step will be to complete a skills check, which you can complete at one of ours Skills Hubs which will ensure you start on a learning programme that is right for you.

What Will Happen At My First Lesson
You may not be starting the course at the same time as anybody else in a Start Now class so you will complete an induction that includes information about safeguarding. You will meet your tutor and set some learning targets.

What Qualification/level is this course?
We offer Functional Skills qualifications at all levels. You will discuss the level of qualification you will be working towards with your tutor.

Please note, you may be required to travel to an alternative ACL Centre when taking your examination or assessment. This will be communicated to you at the earliest opportunity.

Who is the course for?
Anyone who needs to improve their reading, writing and speaking & listening skills to use at home and work and to gain a qualification.

What can I expect to learn?
You will work on the areas relevant to your own needs to achieve a Functional Skills English qualification. You will improve your skills in the following areas: Speaking, listening and communication Take part in formal and informal discussions. Give short presentations. Reading Compare, select, read and understand texts and use them to gather information, ideas, arguments and opinions. Writing Write documents to communicate information, ideas and opinions using formats suitable for their purpose and audience. Develop skills to improve your spelling, grammar and punctuation.

How will I learn?
You will be learning quite independently on a Start Now course with support from a tutor. You may be accessing a self-study course, working in a small group or working independently, depending on your level. This course is for those who need to start their English studies straight away. You need to consider if this course is the right one for you. You take your exams when you are ready to do so.

How will I know how well I am doing?
You will complete a personal progress record each week so your tutor can support your learning goals. You will receive regular verbal and written feedback from your tutor.

Will I have to do any work at home ?
To get the most from the course you will be expected to complete work at home independently as directed by the tutor.

What will I need to provide?
You will need to bring a pen, pencil, ruler, lined paper and a folder for your work.
