Description

The Essential Digital Skills qualifications are based on the national essential digital skills standards covering 5 skill areas: Using devices and handling information, Creating and editing, Communicating, Transacting, and Being safe and responsible online. The qualification provides learners with the essential digital skills which are needed in a wide range of situations in life and at work. For example, successful learners will be able to make appointments, order goods and services, organise payments using online platforms, conduct video calls, create, edit and save a range of documents, and troubleshoot basic problems on their device.

What Will Happen At My First Lesson
The first week of your course will include hints and tips on the best way that you can learn and fully understand the requirements of the course. Your tutor will explain the syllabus of the course and what you will study each week.

Qualification Aim/Level
Subject content for both the Entry level 3 and Level 1 qualifications is based on the DfE national essential digital skills standards covering 5 skill areas: 1. Using devices and handling information 2. Creating and editing 3. Communicating 4. Transacting 5. Being safe and responsible online. You must undertake an initial assessment prior to enrolling on this course. If you are unable to attend on the IT Pre Course Assessment dates shown, please leave your contact details at the relevant centre and the tutor will call you to arrange a mutually convenient time.

Who is this course for?
This course is for those who need to develop their digital skills in a fast pace session for Level 1 EDSQ. You will need to be confident in basic Digital Skills before before enrolling onto the course. Initial Assessment There will be an initial assessment prior to the start of the qualification to identify your current digital skills capabilities and areas for development.

What can I expect to learn?

How will I learn?
Your tutor will use a number of different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of authentic materials, individual study, working in pairs/group activities and will include the use of video/audio. You will also have the opportunity to use online learning technologies to develop your skills.

How will I know how well I am doing?
The learning materials consist of practical activities and exercises which are used to check learning and progress. Tutors will monitor your development of new skills and provide regular feedback. Online assessments for both the Entry level 3 and Level 1 qualifications are externally set by the Awarding Body.

Will I need to do extra work at Home?
Learners undertaking an IT Qualification will be expected to complete at least three hours homework each week. It is always beneficial to practice what you have learnt between sessions.

What will I need to provide?
Learners should have access to a suitable device such as a laptop, desktop computer or tablet with internet access. Learners will also need access to suitable software to enable them to create documents and charts to complete the assessment such as word-processing and spreadsheet software. In order to enrol on your chosen course please bring the following to your initial assesment: Evidence of any prior qualifications National Insurance number- If in receipt of a state benefit and wish to apply for a reduction in the fees Passport if you have not been resident in the UK/EAA for the past 3 years. Proof of ID (Passport or photo driving licence) for award body registration. The tutor will advise you of anything else you need to provide but you may find it useful to bring a notepad and pen for making notes and a USB memory stick for saving work. As a learner with us, you will have access to the online version of Office 365. Please note that the online version may have features that differ from desktop versions you have previously used. Are there any other costs?
Depending on individual circustances you may be required to pay re-sit fees for any failed assessments of the IT Qualification.
