On our Creative Writing course, you will find the confidence to tell your stories orally. You'll learn to write, edit, and complete short stories, poetry or develop longer works of fiction or creative non-fiction including memoir.
This 15-week course will be adapted to your own personal goals: as well as telling and writing stories you will workshop, edit, and receive tailored feedback.
If you are aiming for publication, or want to polish your creative writing for GCSE English, A Level, an Undergraduate or Masters' Degree, this is the course for you.

Who is the course for?
This course is designed for those who would like to express their ideas in writing, and have little or no prior experience of doing so. No previous experience or qualifications are required, but it is desirable to have a competent level of reading and writing English skills.
What can I expect to learn?
This course offers an introduction to the craft of creative writing. We will look at characterisation, story structure and the importance of good observation, at how to decide what you want to write about and at different ways of expressing your ideas effectively.
How will I learn?
You can join this course either online via Teams or in person. Please state your preference when enrolling on this course.
If you wish to join via Teams you will need a suitable digitial device, Wi-fi and a camera.
Teaching methods include tutor presentations, supported by tutor handouts, group and individual activities, peer discussions and critiques, with use of information and learning technologies where appropriate. This is a practical course and you will be expected to do some writing in each lesson.
How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutor will give you feedback on classroom activities and pieces of writing undertaken at home. Individual learning outcomes will be agreed at the beginning of the course, taking into account the course aims and your aspirations. These will be reviewed with you at regular intervals and you will be encouraged to reflect on your own learning and record your feedback in your Individual Learning Plan.
Will I have to do any work at home?
You will be encouraged to work away from the course to keep a writing journal and develop your writing skills.
What will I need to provide?
Paper, pens & folder to keep your work and handouts.
Are there any other costs?
No. However, your tutor may recommend further reading, research and/or websites for further independent exploratory learning.
