The Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health is a knowledge-only qualification. It will increase learners' underpinning knowledge for nutrition and health in areas such as healthy eating, nutritional needs, weight management, eating disorders and food safety in the home environment. The qualifications main focus is learning about nutrition and health. It consists of six core units where the learner will gain knowledge and understanding of the principles of healthy eating and the role of food in maintaining health. Increase confidence in planning and achieving a healthy diet and how an individual's dietary requirements change throughout their life. How food labelling and the ability to use information from food labels is useful to understand. It will provide information on eating disorders and understanding the role of a healthy diet for weight management. Furthermore, it aims to increase understanding for the principles of food safety in a home environment. Typically, the course can be completed in 5 months.

This qualification is designed for learners wishing to develop their understanding for the components to attain a qualification in understanding nutrition and health.

What can I expect to learn?
It will introduce some basic concepts and general understanding for the principles of healthy eating, how to consider the nutritional needs of a variety of individuals. Plus, use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet, the principles of weight management, and understanding eating disorders. Additionally, it will help develop understanding for the principles of food safety for the home environment.
How will I learn?
An online course where learners will also be asked to carry out research and reflection for the subject area and will be directed to online tools and reputable websites. Learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes of the units.
How will I know how well I am doing?
Learners will have an assigned tutor who will communicate on the online platform and when needed telephone or Microsoft Teams.
Work will be regularly assessed and marked, and learners will be provided with encouraging developmental feedback.
Targets will be set at different stages of the course to enable learners to meet personal and course objectives.
Will I need to do any work at home?
We recommend at least 8-10 hours a week to complete research, reading and home study.
Typically, the course can be completed in 4 months.
What will I need to provide?
Learners will need to have access to a computer or device to enable them to visit the online platform to complete and submit work.
Telephone to enable tutor contact.
Pen/pad of paper for taking notes for example to use during one to one phone meetings.
