Care workers play a key role in ensuring their residents/patients are treated with a friendly and caring approach. Care workers have the ability to relate to people from a variety of backgrounds. After an investigation from the Care Quality Commission revealed that 424 out of 1,357 services in England are rated ‘inadequate', the need for high quality trained care workers has never been greater. The objectives of this course will be to understand person-centred thinking and planning to understand care planning for the Care Worker, to understand Nutrition and Hydration in a Health and Social Care Settings, to understand the Principles of Supporting an Individual to maintain personal hygiene and to understand Continence Care and to understand the principles of supporting sleep. Typically, the course can be completed in 4 months.

Who is the course for?
This qualifications purpose is to develop the learner’s knowledge and understanding of their role in supporting the preferences and needs of individuals in relation to their care or support, the development and implementation of care plans and contributing to the review of these by observing, monitoring and reporting on the care activities they’re responsible for.
This course is also suitable to those wishing to build confidence, those returning to work and those looking to improve their employment opportunities to build the skills required for working in the care sector.
What can I expect to learn?
Develop an understanding for the principles and processes of person-centred thinking, planning and review. How to work with individuals to carry out activities specified in their care or support plan, including person-centred assessment, planning, implementation and review. The promotion of health and well-being through nutrition and hydration. Supporting individuals to maintain personal hygiene. Supporting individuals to manage continence and the use of continence equipment and supporting individuals with sleep.
How will I learn?
An online course where learners will also be asked to carry out research and reflection for the subject area and will be directed to online tools and reputable websites. Learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes of the units.
How will I know how well I am doing?
Learners will have an assigned tutor who will communicate on the online platform and when needed telephone or Microsoft Teams.
Work will be regularly assessed and marked, and learners will be provided with encouraging developmental feedback.
Targets will be set at different stages of the course to enable learners to meet personal and course objectives.
Will I have to do any work at home?
We recommend at least 6 - 8 hours a week to complete research, reading and home study.
Typically, the course can be completed in 5 months.
What will I need to provide?
Learners will need to have access to a computer or device to enable them to visit the online platform to complete and submit work.
Telephone to enable tutor contact.
Pen/pad of paper for taking notes for example to use during one to one phone meetings.
Are there any other costs?
There are no other costs in addition to the course fee.
