Description
This course is for anyone who needs to improve their Maths skills in their everyday lives and work or in order to gain access to further or higher education. You will work towards a qualification. You are required to book onto an assessment before enrolling onto this course. Here you will be able to discuss the options available to you with a tutor.
What Qualification/level is this course?
This online live taught course is suitable for anyone working towards a Functional Skills qualification at Level 1. You will discuss the qualification you will be working towards with your tutor. Classes will be taught online live each week via Microsoft Teams. You will need a computer, or laptop, with a camera and mic. Your tutor needs to be able to see you during the lesson so there is an expectation you will have your camera on. You will not be able to access this course if you only have a mobile phone or tablet. It would also be useful to have access to a printer and a scanner, or a scanner app.

Who is the course for?
For anyone who needs to improve their maths skills to become functional in their everyday lives and work or to gain access to further or higher education. You will work towards a qualification. You will also have additional work to complete outside of the classroom.
What can I expect to learn?
The course will consist of various topics such as:
Using the four main methods of calculation, working with fractions, decimals and percentages, analysing data from charts and graph, finding the area and perimeter of shapes, working with a variety of units of measure, time and weight and converting measurements.
How will I learn?
This is a distance learning course taught via an online classroom. Your tutor will use several different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of materials and websites, individual study, working in pairs/group activities and will include the use of video/audio. You will also be set homework each week and you must be able to commit to completing this.
How will I know how well I am doing?
You will complete weekly Individual Learning Plan and will have regular discussions with your tutor. You will be expected to complete homework each week and your tutor will give you feedback on this. Throughout the course you will complete regular assessments in order to see progress.
Will I have to do any work at home ?
Yes. Your tutor will advise you of additional work that you need to complete. You need to make sure that you allow enough time to complete this each week.
What will I need to provide?
You will need to have access to a computer or laptop with a camera and microphone (or a webcam) and you will need access to the internet. You may also want a pen, pencil, ruler, lined paper, and a folder for your work. You will need a calculator when you take your exam - it is a good idea to use the same one throughout your course, so you get used to it. You will not be able to use your phone as a calculator in your exam.
