Description

A 2-week course in-centre in the ACL Mental Health and Wellbeing Programme, offering an introduction to self-help strategies to improve sleep, recognise sleep cycles, routines and environmental factors affecting sleep and what you can do to sleep better. The course offers group learning facilitated by two tutors who have professional and lived experience of mental health and is funded by Essex County Council to support its residents' wellbeing. To be eligible to enrol you must reside or work in Essex. No more than one course in the Mental Health and Wellbeing programme to be taken per week in order to apply learning in daily life before further courses are undertaken.

What Qualification/level is this course?
This course does not lead to a qualification and is for personal development.

Who is the course for?
To be eligible for this course you must reside or work within Essex. This course is for those wishing to increase their knowledge about positive sleep hygiene and take action to improve their own sleeping habits. This course is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty or psychological confusion.

What can I expect to learn?
You will learn about the cycles and science behind sleep, the importance of sleep and how poor sleep hygiene can affect our mental wellbeing. The course will further equip you with a variety of self help strategies that will help to support you to improve your personal sleeping habits.

How will I learn?
Classes are with two tutors who have professional and lived experience of mental health. Learning activities will include tutor presentations, group discussions, group and individual activities, individual reflection and a chance to ‘check-in’ at each session in a supportive learning environment.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutors will give feedback as appropriate in short course to help you gauge your progress and you will be encouraged to reflect on your own development.

Will I have to do any work at home ?
You will be encouraged to practice techniques in everyday life, to help develop personal strategies to improve sleep hygiene.

What will I need to provide?
A notepad and pen for notetaking.

What is the cost of this course?
There is no charge for this course. This course is funded by Essex County Council to support its residents’ wellbeing.
