Description
A 2-week live online course in the ACL Mental Health and Wellbeing programme exploring stigma often experienced by men around mental health, common disorders such as anxiety and depression, looking at the 5 ways to wellbeing and strategies to enhance men's mental wellbeing. The course offers group learning facilitated by two tutors who have professional and lived experience of mental health and is funded by Essex CC to support its residents' wellbeing. To be eligible to enrol you must reside or work in Essex. No more than one course in the Mental Health and Wellbeing programme to be taken per week in order to apply learning in daily life before further courses are undertaken. You will need a current laptop/PC with webcam, microphone, internet connection and be able to access websites.

Who is the course for?
To be eligible for this course you must reside or work within Essex. This course is for those wishing to gain understanding of the stigma often experienced by men in relation to mental health and to gain self-help skills to aid wellbeing. This course is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty or psychological confusion.
What can I expect to learn?
Topics include/you will learn:
An awareness of the stigma often suffered by men in relation to mental health, defining common disorders such as anxiety and depression, the mind/body relationship, five ways to wellbeing and how these relate to self-care and wellbeing and an introduction to strategies to help cope with mental health conditions.
How will I learn?
This course is held live online in a virtual classroom. Classes are with two tutors who have professional and lived experience of mental health. Learning activities will include tutor presentations, group discussions, sharing ideas, group and individual activities, individual reflection and a chance to ‘check-in’ at each session in a supportive learning environment.
How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutors will give feedback as appropriate in a short course to help you gauge your progress and you will be encouraged to reflect on your own development.
Will I have to do any work at home?
You will be encouraged to reflect on understanding and practice techniques in everyday life to aid wellbeing.
What will I need to provide?
You will need a laptop or PC with current operating system, webcam, microphone, Google browser, internet connection. A notepad and pen for notetaking.
What is the cost of this course?
There is no charge for this course. This course is funded by Essex County Council to support its residents’ wellbeing.
