Description

One of the most important roles in the PAS process is that of the Retrofit Assessor. The PAS requires change in the way in which we conduct surveys and collect data about people's homes. It is therefore necessary to upskill Domestic Energy Assessors to better understand retrofit and ensure they are skilled to carry out the task to the required standards.

This course will be delivered using a blended learning approach. Dates of online live group sessions will be provided at interview. Dates of one to one will be arranged with the course tutor

The cost for this course is £1300, however you may be eligible for funding if you live or work in the Braintree District Council area.

Please note: You can register your interest for this course, however we are not conducting interviews or enrolling learners until June 2025., for the course start date of 09/09/2025.

What Will Happen At My First Lesson
You will be fully inducted onto the course, which will include course expectations, structure and an overview of the course content. Your tutor will then lead you through a variety of learning activities that will support and guide you to start the written work, that demonstrates your understanding of this subject area.

Who is this course for?
Pre-requsites for this course:- The minimum qualification is a Certificate in Level 3 Domestic Energy Assessor with at least 6 months experience working as a DEA or in a similar assessor role. A CV, or an employers letter of endorsement, will be required to support your application. Brief details of any DEA bodies or schemes you are in or have been accredited to. Initial Assessment:- You will be required to complete a BKSB English assessment, complete a pre course questionnaire and attend a one to one Teams meeting with the course tutor to ensure your suitability for this course.

What can I expect to learn?
The course features 7 units that covers all aspects of the retrofit assessor The units are as follows: Advice requirements in the PAS 2035 Retrofit Process Assessing the general condition of buildings and dwellings Occupancy Assessment Retrofit Assessment Reporting The Principles of PAS 2035 The Retrofit Assessment Process Ventilation and Energy Performance Requirements of Dwellings

How will I learn?
There is a mix of online group sessions, research, e-learning, and one to one support sessions with your allocated assessor. During the class sessions your tutor will use a number of different teaching and learning methods, for example; presentations, interactive activities, including discussions, questions and answers. These sessions will be supported by learning resources that you can review at home and these will enable you to complete the written work required to meet the standards for the 7 units. You will also be expected to complete a case study on different types of domestic dwellings. Once you have completed your portfolio of work, you will be invited to a final assessment where you will be able to present your knowledge through a presentation and a professional discussion

How will I know how well I am doing?
During each group class session a variety of assessment methods will be used e.g directed or group questioning and discussions. You will complete a Learning Log at the end of each session and your tutor will provide you with verbal and written feedback to support and guide your learning. You will be allocated a Tutor who will provide you with one to one support and guidance through Teams meetings and these will be evidence through written contact logs and you will receive verbal and written feedback on your assignments.

Will I have to do extra work at home?
Your class sessions will be accessed remotely. You will be expected to complete a portfolio of written work. To support this part of the course you will be expected to carry out additional research and reading.

What will I need to provide?
You will need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection and camera to enable you to access the class sessions, one to one meetings via Teams and to access our chosen online portal, for research purposes and writing assignments. Pen and paper to make notes during class sessions and any support meetings you have with your tutor.

Are there any other costs?
There may be funding available for this course. This can be discussed with the tutor at interview.
