Description

This course is for anyone who needs to improve their English skills in their everyday lives and work or to gain access to further or higher education. You will improve your reading, writing and speaking and listening skills. You will also work towards a qualification. You are required to attend a pre-course meeting with a tutor where you can discuss your course options before enrolling.

What Will Happen At My First Lesson
The first week of your course will include an induction. You will also do activities that will help you to set your personal learning goals. You will find out more about the course and what you will be learning. You will meet other learners and learn about how to keep safe at ACL Essex.

Qualification Aim/Level
You are expected to complete English Functional Skills qualifications.

Who is this course for?
This course is for adults with learning disabilities wishing to develop their skills in English.

What can I expect to Learn?
You will develop skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

How will I learn?
Your tutor will use a number of different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of authentic materials, individual study, working in pairs/group activities and will include the use of video/audio. You will also have the opportunity to use online learning technologies to develop your skills.

How will I know how well I am doing?
You will follow your own individual learning plan with progress recorded by tutors and yourself. Feedback will also be given to you during the lesson.

Will I need to do extra work at home?
You will be encouraged to use the skills you have learnt in the class at home and in the community.

What will I need to provide?
You should bring a file, paper and pen to the session.

Are there any other costs?
Please bring money for a drink and snack at break time or you can bring your own with you.
