The Early Years Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) qualification is for a Level 3 practitioner in a private, voluntary or independent setting. All early years providers are required to have arrangements in place to identify and support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and to promote equality of opportunity for children in their care. This is an important role to ensure the best possible educational outcomes are achieved for children with SEND.
The qualification is designed for those already working in a SENCo role as part of their early years practitioner role, or those who are interested in doing so. This qualification is also appropriate for childminders.

Duration
There will be an expectation for candidates to achieve the qualification within 6 months.
Assessment
Assessment is through assignments, observation and submission of evidence in a portfolio to demonstrate that the requirements are met to a relevant standard.
Entry requirements
Learners must be 19+ and hold a Level 3 Early Years qualification. They should already be in a SENCo role or interested in doing so.
Qualification structure
To achieve this qualification, learners are required to successfully complete 2 mandatory units.
Delivery methods
There will be online workshops/tutorials to support the learner through the knowledge and understanding to build their portfolio.
