Description

This course is centre-based. In the ACL Mental Health and Wellbeing Programme, this course raises awareness of the stigma often suffered by men in relation to mental health, defining common disorders such as anxiety and depression and how this relates to the mind/body relationship. The course will enable you to identify and put into practice a Wellbeing Toolkit, discover the five ways to wellbeing and many other strategies to help cope with mental health conditions. This course is classroom based and offers group learning facilitated by two tutors who have professional and lived experience of mental health. To be eligible for this course you must reside or work within Essex.

This course does not lead to a qualification

Who is the course for?
To be eligible for this course you must reside or work within Essex. This course is for those wishing to gain understanding of the stigma often suffered by men in relation to mental health and gain self-help skills to aid wellbeing. This course is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty or psychological confusion.

What can I expect to learn?
Topics include/you will learn: An awareness of the stigma often suffered by men in relation to mental health, defining common disorders such as anxiety and depression, the mind/body relationship, five ways to wellbeing and how these relate to self-care and wellbeing and an introduction to strategies to help cope with mental health conditions.

How will I learn?
Classes are with two tutors who have professional and lived experience of mental health. Learning activities will include tutor presentations, group discussions, group and individual activities, individual reflection and a chance to ‘check-in’ at each session in a supportive learning environment.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutors will give feedback as appropriate in a short course to help you gauge your progress and you will be encouraged to reflect on your own development.

Will I have to do any work at home?
You will be encouraged to reflect on understanding and practice techniques in everyday life to aid wellbeing.

What will I need to provide?
A notepad and pen for notetaking.

What is the cost of this course?
There is no charge for this course. This course is funded by Essex County Council to support its residents’ wellbeing.
